More adventures at the Barrage

What an evening of fun! We decided to revisit the barrage as we didn't do justice to the garden roof. So this time, we made sure we had more time for me to run around and play with my tennis ball from Daddy.

But before we got started, we made time to take some photos of us fooling around at the viewing platform and oogling at the kites!

Here I am playing peekaboo with Mummy & Daddy at the fountain area.

Then it was time for a ball game with Mummy! Game-On!

What a gloriously fun day! We should definitely invite my grandparents and uncles out for another fun outing at the Barrage soon...till then...

I'm 18 months old!

I'm finally one and a half years old! I've come of age as a full fledged toddler! My vocabulary has expanded and I can have a conversation with you now. Just don't go against me once I've made up my mind cos I love to do things MY WAY!

Motor Skills
I'm getting more proficient at climbing and confident enough to do so on my own without any help from mummy or daddy. I can also sit down and slide all my myself. I love to bend over and peer between my legs to say "boo!" before recovering to an upright position. Oh and did I mention that I'm this close to running? I love to run on my toes and look like I'm jogging here and there half the time.

Language

I'm expanding my vocabulary at an amazing pace! I know most of the fruits and vegetables out there and am able to name them whenever I see them (eg: strawberry, lychee, orange, apple, kiwi, starfruit, mango, grape, pear, melon, banana, carrot, pumpkin just to name a few) not to mention transport vehicles, and pictures in my books. I love to name all the interesting things I observe either around the house or when I'm out having fun. I'm getting very good at forming short sentences now of 3-4 words in length and my longest sentence now stands at 10 syllables ("Big waterfall on, small waterfall off"). Now mummy and daddy are trying to challenge me with 3 or 4 syllable words. I can name most shapes when asked (circle, triangle, rectangle, square, diamond)

Cognitive
- Colour recognition: I know how to name most of the colours (i.e. red, blue, yellow, green, purple, brown, orange) but I need to get in the mood to focus on the object at hand rather than name my favourite colour of the moment.
- Big and small: I'm making comparisons with people and things that I see and once I've made an assessment, I will label the big or small depending on their relative size. I have since classified uncles (i.e.security guards at my home), waterfalls, stones, shoes, and buses.
- Counting: I can count out loud from 1 to 10 all by myself.
- Alphabet: I can sing the abc's from a to g and name examples after the letters a to e.
- Judgement: I'm able to make evaluations pretty quick now so everything more or less falls into a "good" or "no good" criteria. This can be applied to songs that I hear, food that I eat, activities that I do or people that I meet.
- Making requests: Going one step after I have made my evaluation, I will indicate my preferences clearly and let you know the person I want assigned for each task such as bathing me, feeding me, cleaning me and taking me out for a good time. I also have a priority list for my favourite food, the songs that I listen to and the books that I read.

Emotional
I'm able to comprehend the concept of emotions and how it affects others around me. I'm able to relate to stories where someone is sad, happy, scared or angry. Mummy hopes that this will help me manage my own emotions better. For now, I still need adequate notice before transitioning between my favourite pastimes.

I will comfort you when you are sad or in pain by giving you a hug or kiss and I will celebrate with you when I see your joy.

Social

I'm still apprehensive of new surroundings but I warm up quickly as long as mummy or daddy is around. I'm very sociable with other toddlers my age and I'm able to share my toys without much fuss. Oh and I play one mean game of "Peekaboo". hehe
